Everyday Skincare for the New Year

Black man with beautiful, glowing skin cleansing his face with skincare products on display on bathroom counter.

Ah, the holidays are finally over and it’s time to get back into the routine of things. One routine being, skincare. And if you’re like me, with all the festivities that went on during the season, keeping up with a skincare routine was not top priority. But that’s okay, a new year means new resolutions and new possibilities for everyday skincare. And one resolution you need to make this year is ditching the plain soap and investing in a cleanser that’s actually good for your skin.

Any soap can cleanse, but what makes a good cleanser?

Cleansing is the first step and a very crucial part of a good skincare routine. If you want good skin, you need to cleanse good. But before we even get into that, let’s start at the top - What is a cleanser and why do you need it?

Cleansers are products formulated to rid the skin of impurities, pollution, sunscreen, makeup, dead skin cells, oil and dirt that accumulate on our skin as we go about our day-to-day. A good cleanser is able to clean the skin without stripping and leaving the skin dry and irritated. For your skincare products to work, a clean foundation is a must. Simply put, you won’t get the glowing, healthy skin you want if your skin isn’t properly cleansed.

There are so many cleansers on the market. How do I find the right one?

Now that we’ve discussed the importance of cleansing, How do you find the right cleanser for you?

When selecting a cleanser, it’s important to consider your skin type, and whether you have oily, dry, normal, sensitive, combination or acne prone skin, a gentle cleanser is the way to go. Ideally, you should look for a cleanser that not only takes away from the skin but also gives back, and remember, not all cleansers are created equal. A gentle cleanser, such as the Cleanze Revitalizing Daily Wash from Everyday Skin MD, is formulated with no parabens or sulfates and is gentle enough to be used twice daily.

The Everyday Skin MD cleanser contains Salicylic Acid, which works to unclog pores and is a potent ingredient for targeting blackheads and whiteheads. Papaya Enzymes is another key ingredient listed that is great for brightening the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. Licorice Root Extract is known to help protect against UV damage from the sun and has moisturizing properties that help to keep the skin looking hydrated and supple.

Make Everyday Skincare Part of Your New Year Resolution

When it comes to cleansing, people often assume any cleanser will do. However, there are important factors to consider in order to choose the right cleanser for you and your skin type. Get to know your skin and consult with a medically trained professional if you need to. Cleansing is too crucial a first step for anyone to neglect.
